Do & Don’t Faucet & Sink Installation – Things to Avoid

Bathroom Faucet & Sink Installation Do’s and Don’ts

This installation guide is written for homeowners, remodelers, plumbers, designers, and DIY renovators who want fewer leaks, cleaner countertop details, better faucet alignment, and longer-lasting bathroom sink performance.

Do confirm faucet reach before drilling countertop holes

The spout should land water near the natural handwashing area, not against the back wall or front rim of the sink. Always dry-fit the faucet with the sink before drilling stone, quartz, marble, or solid-surface counters.

Don’t assume every faucet works with every basin. Vessel sinks, shallow sinks, and narrow vanity tops require extra care.

Do check supply-line access before installing the vanity

Leave enough room to tighten connections, reach shutoff valves, replace supply hoses, and service cartridges later. A beautiful vanity becomes frustrating if basic plumbing parts are trapped behind drawers or decorative panels.

Don’t install cabinetry first and hope the plumbing will fit afterward.

Do seal around faucet bases carefully

Moisture around faucet bases can stain stone, damage wood vanities, and loosen mounting hardware over time. Use the correct gasket, washer, or sealant method recommended for the faucet and countertop material.

Don’t overuse sealant where future removal or servicing will be needed.
